Samsung Wallet Company ID: What Mobile Access Means for Durban Offices

Access control is moving beyond physical cards and tags. On 22 September 2026, Samsung described a new Company ID experience that lets compatible Galaxy phones act as employee badges through Samsung Wallet and Aliro-based technology. The initial collaboration with Kastle Systems is launching in the United States and Canada — not a confirmed South African rollout.

What makes this development interesting?

Instead of presenting a separate card, authorised users can tap a compatible Galaxy phone at a supported NFC reader. Samsung says the experience can offer quicker entry through Fast Mode, while organisations can require phone authentication for doors needing additional checks. Some supported devices retain limited access capability after their battery runs flat.

The key development is not simply replacing a plastic card with a phone. Aliro is intended to improve consistency between mobile devices and compatible access-control systems. For organisations managing many employees, buildings and entry points, the potential is a more flexible digital credential experience.

Before changing an existing system, verify reader and controller compatibility, enrolment and revocation workflows, offline or battery-failure fallback, visitor access, data protection and a reliable way to issue physical credentials when needed. Mobile credentials do not automatically work with every existing reader or phone.
